Rumple 2007: Homecoming |
|
Treetops Resort Gaylord, MI ![]() ![]() |
All and all, it was gorgeous and good 5k way to loosen up for the marathon to come. I personally played like shit and couldn't wait for the beer to flow like a river, which, of course, it did.
'Lessons Learned' does not apply to the Rumple. A solid crowd of joksters raged until Deci arrived on the first night. In trade mark fashion, Deci strolled in at 4:30 am in a borrowed car and missing his clubs. An airport mishap claimed he... Oh heavens...
It's funny how a 6 am wake up call doesn't quite jive with a 4:30 bed time. OK, it wasn't funny, but that's why we do it. Bloody Mary, Mt. Dew, Bloody Mary... "And, on the first tee, from..." |
Three Rumplers missed the first tee time of the event. Again, though half a mile away from the shack, transportation coordination continues to be an issue. Something to work on for 2008.
No worries though. With 21 guys, we simply shuffled around the teeing order with the available guys and slick as snot on a door knob, we were off. The Weather? Beautiful (knock on wood after 5 years of this event, we have only missed 3 holes of golf due to weather, including a hurricane) The Golf? All over the place. Strong starts of 81, 82, 82, 84 were matched by equally impressive scores of 133, 135, 135, 142. Game on. After an exciting morning round at the Tradition, it was off to the Masterpiece. I'll say this, all of the courses were shaped beautifully in the northern Michigan woods. The Masterpiece, their 'A' course, was sadly overplayed, under construction, mislabeled, and slightly neglected. |
The golf is winding down on day two and the party is picking up. The first Rumple attempt at a Beeramid was started and averaging a case a piece, its growth was steady. Again, lessons learned? Nope, not quite. I hit the floor around 1 am and there was still some peeps creeping about... |
